The events from the beginnings of the colonies that led the leaders of the country to create a new government in 1787.
Several events led to the independence of the American colonies. The British imposed several "acts", such as the Stamp act, Townshend act, as well as the Intolerable acts. The unfairness of these acts, led the colonies to revolt in many ways, including the Boston Tea Party, and also it led to, The American Revolution. The American Revolution gave the colonies their freedom, and were no longer under repressive British control. After gaining their independence the American's set up The Articles of Confederation, which was the first form of government for the young country of America.

1765- England imposes the Stamp Act 1767-Townshend Acts on imported materials, like glass and tea, as well as paper 1770-Boston Massacare where 5 unarmed colonists were killed by British Soldiers. 1773- Angry colonists dump British Tea into the Boston Harbor 1775- Olive Branch Petition: The Second Continental Congress sent a letter to the King of England Pleading for a peaceful alternative, rather than war 1775-American Revolution starts, which is the Colonies against the British, at Bunker Hill in Boston Mass 1779 - A peace plan is approved by Congress which states independence, British evacuation of America and free navigation on the Mississippi River. 1783 - England officially declares an end to hostilities in America 1784 - The Treaty of Paris is ratified by Congress. The Revolutionary War officially ends.References 1786 - Americans suffer from post-war economic depression including a shortage of currency, high taxes, nagging creditors, farm foreclosures and bankruptcies. 1786 - In Massachusetts, to prevent debtors from being tried and put in prison, ex-Revolutionary War Captain Daniel Shays, who is now a bankrupt farmer, leads an armed mob and prevents the Northampton Court from holding a session 1787 - Due to the demand of a strong central government, fueled by Shays' Rebellion, Congress endorses a resolution calling for a constitutional convention to be held in Philadelphia, beginning in May. 1787- Instead of revising the Articles of Confederation, delegates vote to create a brand new type of national government,split into three branches - the legislative, executive and judicial - therefore dividing power with checks and balances, and, as a measure of protection against tyranny by a controlling majority.
